Since 1981 the Society’s collection has been cared for and housed in the Ballarat Gold Museum, now the Australian Centre for Gold Rush Collections, where it forms an important part of the Centre’s overall collection.
The collection can now be searched on-line by going to the Sovereign Hill website.
Established at the Eureka Centre in Ballarat, BRHAE is a new one-stop shop for history and genealogical research in the region. Their collection comprises rare books, newspapers, photographs and posters that document Ballarat’s social.
BRHAE combines the resources and services of the Public Record Office, Victoria’s Ballarat Archives Centre, Ballarat and District Genealogical Society and the City of Ballarat’s Australiana Research Collection.
In normal times, the service provides researchers with access to public computers and printing, microfilm and microfiche collections and online databases.
There are many books, which have been collected over the years that have become important references. These include books on the early history of Ballarat and district mining records. Some of these volumes are very valuable, as well as being fragile, and so there may be limited access to the reference collection.
Included are: Dickers mining record, State government proceedings. Newspapers: Ballarat Star, Ballarat Courier, Melbourne Argus, The Australasian.
* The Ballarat history Central web site has been specifically set up as an alternative local history resource. It has been designed to appeal to anyone interested in history in general, and local history in particular.
The Sebastopol Historical Society has a wonderful collection of historical items ranging from the middle 1800s to current time. Some of the topics that can be researched are, mining, local schools, Borough of Sebastopol memorabilia, photos, furniture that came from the Borough, many items from former residents of Sebastopol.
The Ballarat Ranger Military Museum is run by a small band of dedicated volunteers who wish to preserve the military heritage of Ballarat and District and the history of the Volunteers/Militia/Citizens Military Forces/Army Reserve members who have trained with the units that form the history of the current Ballarat Army Reserve unit the 8th/7th Battalion, The Royal Victoria Regiment.
Friends of the Anson is a volunteer group trying to preserve and restore an Avro Anson.
The Museum is open most weekends.
Photographs and documents tell the story of the History of the Ballarat Airport.
The Avro Anson enjoyed one of the longest production runs of any British aircraft, this status being maintained from 1934 until 1952 when the last Anson mark T.21 completed its acceptance trials.
